One girls DIY restoration of a cottage.

As far as possible we, me and MeWally, want an old age with low, or no, utility bills. We also happen to be stingey with money and will make as much eco stuff as we can and build it all into our tiny house.

So we'll have a comfortable home that's cheap to make and to run. RESULT!!

Proper Job - Saturday 5.11.11

Derek popped over this afternoon to finish off the CORBELS with us.

He knocked out the wooden supports and nothing moved!
We all breathed a sigh of relief.

Finally Derek filled in the holes and pointed up. Both ends of the wall look resplendent with their new corbels and repointed mortar.

Then he got on with another little job that we'd noticed on Tuesday. See the next blog :)

Cor, Balls!

OK, I admit it, I meant CORBELS. Had to replace them today.

Storm clouds are gathering, but the forecast for the day is good - phew!

Two scaffolding towers were erected by BUDGET SCAFFOLD,

each with a ladder. Here's one of them.

And here's the problem, CONCRETE CANCER, or, as I like to call it:
s**t the roof's about to slide off!

After setting up a simple roof support system, much brick cutting,

demolition, and muck mixing,

we were ready to pop in the new CORBAL

and bricks. The props stay in for a few days, at which point the final pointing along the roof line will be done. Another few days after that and we can strip out the support and pray the new block work will hold up the roof.

Front and rear corbels done in a day - happy DEREK.

He'll be paid on Saturday with a meal. He's a great mate. I'd better crack out the recipe books, he's earned a blow out feast.
